2007 Carnival  

*Parade line up will start at 4:30 pm registration will be at W. Sunset Ave. and School St. Parade questions call Lt. Starkey 443-786-2904

The annual carnival will be held June 25 -30. We look forward to to seeing you there and appreciate your continued support. As usual, we will have a raffle drawing on June 30th giving away prizes to three lucky winners. Come try one of our new ANGUS hamburgers and our hand sliced, fresh french fries. Here is our schedule of events:

*There will be no parking at carnival grounds Friday night due to the fireworks. There will be a shuttle bus from Greensboro Elementary School .

 

1st Annual Community Yard Sale

 The Greensboro Volunteer Fire Company Auxiliary will be hosting its 1st annual Community Yard Sale on Saturday June 9th from 7am until 12pm.The event will be held at our carnival grounds on Sunset Ave.  Tables are being rented for $15 in advance and $20 on the day of the sale. Fire Queen Contest

The Greensboro Volunteer Fire Company will be hosting its annual Queen Contest on June 15, 2007 at 7:00pm at the firehouse. Anyone wishing to enter the contest must live within the Greensboro fire district area The contestant groups are as follows:

Lil' Miss must be between 4 and 8 years old and the applicant must have turned 4 by June 1st.

Miss Greensboro must be ages 14-18

Company Drill For June

June 5, 2007

Tonight members gathered for the monthly drill on hydrant operations, and hose evolutions. Members reviewed how to pull and rack hose lines and how to hook up for hydrant operations. The drill was conducted by Lt. Gowen.

604 Attends Farewell To The Troops

June 9, 2007

Today E-604 headed to Easton to attend an event to say farewell to the National Guard Troops that will be headed to Iraq later this week. E-604 along with units from Talbolt and Dorchester Counties delivered Santa Claus to the armory on Rt 50. Members along with Santa Claus met with the troops and wished them a safe trip. The troops will return home sometime after Christmas.

 

2 Alarm Field Fire in Denton

June 9, 2007

At 1608 hours units were dispatched to the area of 8614 Andersontown Rd for a field Fire. Brush 602 and Tanker 606 were responding along with units from Denton and Harrington when Caroline advised the caller reported 5-6 acres involved. E-304 requested the 2nd alarm bringing E-604 to the scene which was on a stand-by at Ridgely. E-304 went O/L and confirmed 5-6 acres involved. Officer 324 (Franklin) established "Andersontown Rd Command." Brush 602 and E-604 were put to work putting a stop to the fire, while tanker 606 took the assignment of water supply. Units operated for approximately 1hour and 50 minutes before clearing at 1754 hours. Thanks to Queen Anne's Engine Company 51 for standing by.

MVC With Rollover

June 10, 2007

At 0815 hours units were dispatched to the area of E. Cherry Lane and River Road for a MVC with rollover. PM791 went O/L and reported 1 vehicle off the road. It appeared that the vehicle had rolled multiple times, with no entrapment. Rescue arrived and confirmed PM791's report and Officer 619 (Davis) established "Cherry Lane Command." PM791 transported 1 patient. Units operated for approximately 22 minutes before clearing at 0837hours.

MVC With Entrapment

June 14,2007

At 0048 hours units were dispatched to Ridgely Road for a MVC with entrapment. Chief 6 went O/L and reported 1 vehicle in the roadway. Officer 619 (Davis) established "Ridgely Road Command." Rescue 600 arrived and was assigned to the extraction while E-603's crew pulled the bumper line and then assisted with patient removal. Units operated for approximately 40 minutes before clearing at 0130 hours.

2 Alarm Building Fire

June 14, 2007

At 2321 hours units were dispatched to 114 Mill Street for a building fire. Officer 621 (Starkey) went O/L and reported a garage 100% involved with exposure problems. Officer 621 established "Mill Street Command." Command then advised extension into the residence and requested the 2nd alarm. E-603 arrived and went to work putting a knock on the fire. E-703 arrived and went to work doing an interior attack on the exposure, while E-401 and Tower 310 handled ventilation. Command was then passed to Officer 415 (Hayes). Command placed the box under control with units working at 0004 hours. Units operated for approximately 3 hours before clearing at 0133 hours. Thanks to Queen Anne's Engine Company 51 for standing by.

Line Of Duty Deaths

 June 19, 2007

The Officers and Members of the Greensboro Volunteer Fire Co. would like to send their deepest sympathies to our brothers and sisters in the Charleston SC Fire  Dept. They lost 9 of their finest firefighters fighting a furniture store fire. Our hearts go out to the families of those who were lost.

GVFC Participates in MSFA Parade

June 20, 2007

Today E-604, Utility 608 and the Hale headed to Ocean City to participate in the MSFA convention parade.  After arriving at the line up, members started to detail the units to get ready for the parade. Shortly after completing the detail the rain started. After a brief rain shower members were back to work getting the units ready for the parade. The weather cleared up just in time for the parade and the sun came out. Following the parade trophies were awarded. The Hale was awarded best appearing antique fire apparatus 25 years and older. E-604 was awarded 3rd best appearing 1000 gpm and up pumper. We would like to thank Knotts' Towing of Ridgely for providing transportation for the Hale to the parade.

 

2007 Carnival Another Success

The 2007 Carnival closed tonight after a successful week. We would to thank everyone who came out to support us and we hope to see you next year in June.  We would also like to thank all who provided Fire and EMS stand by's during the carnival.
